It is true that history does not have much to do with the present. However, this doesn't mean that narrative is useless. History can be a source for entertainment and knowledge about the world. Many people love hearing stories about historical figures that shaped their own lives, especially if the stories are told in a way that is also entertaining.

It's an easy way to teach history since it appeals to children. But, by over-romanticizing history, we can turn it into something more dangerous than informative. We can make it feel like our past is more important than our own lives, especially if we are young or don't know much about it yet.
